Boulder County Resident Named Childhood Immunization Champion

BOULDER, CO -- Lindsay Diamond, a local county resident, won the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2018 Childhood Immunization Champion Award, a national recognition that honors individuals who make a significant contribution toward improving public health through their work in childhood immunization.

With her Ph.D in molecular biology, Diamond has been a parent advocate for childhood vaccines among parents and public health professionals in Colorado since 2015. She uses her expertise to translate the science of immunization into plain language in hopes that she can help parents understand the importance of vaccination and approach the issue with an open mind.

"Lindsay leverages her science background to make the science of vaccinations understandable and approachable for everyone," said Dr. Indira Gujral, Boulder County Public Health Communicable Disease and Emergency Management division manager, in a statement. "Her advocacy, leadership, and collaboration are helping to transform our community's attitudes and beliefs."

Diamond is also the co-founder of Community Immunity, a parent-driven organization working to inform the Boulder County community about immunizations and advocate for their use at the local level. She has worked with the Boulder County Public Health Immunization Program and local health care partners to address low vaccination rates.
