Visit Your Doctor Now As Coronavirus Cases Fall, State's Top Doctor Says - Block Club Chicago

Image
CHICAGO — People should start returning for doctor visits now, as the number of new coronavirus cases is dropping, the state’s top health official said Tuesday. Dr. Ngozi Ezike, head of the Illinois Department of Public Health, urged people to get medical checkups and take their children in for physicals and immunizations. She said too many people have put off those practices due to the coronavirus pandemic — but now is a prime time to reschedule them since the state is seeing fewer new cases and deaths from COVID-19. “Yes, there could be a surge of COVID-19 in the fall or perhaps earlier, but let’s make sure we take this opportunity now to get to our doctors,” Ezike said during a press conference about reopening schools this fall. “Let’s get our immunizations. Let’s get our health screenings. “Let’s get as healthy as we can. The second case was announced Saturday. “We’re still here monitoring every day,” said Dent County Health Center administrator Kenda Mobray. Before Saturday the only case had been released to normal activity, leaving the county without any active cases. DCHC receives a list from the Department of Health and Senior Services each day of negative test results. If any results were positive, the health center would know within an hour, she said. As of Thursday, Dent County had 311 negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR), or nose swab, tests and 35 negative serology tests. Mother finds person who placed cross at the site of her daughter’s fatal crash - Kinston Free Press

Gale Taylor had never seen a cross on the side of the road. She never had to place a roadside memorial in her front yard even after her 5-year-old daughter, Penny Jo, was struck by a vehicle on Memorial Day in 1979. “I can see her right now with those long, skinny legs running up the driveway and across the road,” Taylor said. “I saw the car coming and I knew it was going to happen. When the car hit her, she went up in the air a good 20 feet, and she looked like a rag doll. I thought she was dead. “I never thought about a cross then because I had never seen one on a road, but I thank God every day that she was alive.” Penny Jo Noble Strain, 45, died at 10:02 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, of this year after she crossed the center line on Cunningham Road, hitting an ABF Freight System Inc. tractor trailer head on, according to the accident report. A white cross mysteriously appeared on the same day in the curve where Penny died. And after her mother searched for the person who placed it ...

The Kalispell City Council approved three resolutions related to building and development within the city limits on Monday evening at its first public, in-person meeting in about two months. City councilors and members of the public were present in the City Council Chambers for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down most public gatherings earlier in the spring. At the meeting, the council passed a resolution of intent to hold a public hearing on June 15 for a Kalispell Growth Policy amendment for Colton Lee Communities. The proposed 3.27-acre property at 216 Hutton Ranch Road potentially would pave the way for a “multi-family residential project with a potential commercial component.” Councilor Sid Daoud wondered why this project had not been included in earlier development plans for the area, but the resolution of intent unanimously passed nonetheless. The council also unanimously approved a request to annex property at 155 Three Mile Drive into the city and zone it ...

Vaccinations are vital - Deccan Herald

Image
One of the greatest boons that medical science has given to mankind, vaccines help in preventing and eliminating many life-threatening diseases and infections. They have had an enormous contribution to healthcare worldwide and have enabled medical science in the eradication of diseases like smallpox and pushed others like polio to the verge of extinction. As per statistics from the WHO, vaccination is estimated to avert two to three million deaths every year with its targeted strategies and proven mechanism.   The fight against diseases can be a slow as reinforced by the most recent health pandemic-- coronavirus. It is true that despite vaccination, there may still be outbreaks of certain diseases given the fact that complete eradication requires long, sustained, and rigorous efforts. However, a reduction in occurrence can gradually lead to a decrease in incidence and an overall improved health status. For a country like India with a not-so-strong healthcare system and lack ...
