New Mexico Center To Provide Behavioral Health Services  -  Albuquerque Journal, Associated Press Bernalillo County officials have opened the first 24-hour crisis triage and treatment center in to provide behavioral and mental health services. The Albuquerque Journal reported yesterday that the 70,000-square-foot renovated space would serve people who might otherwise end up in a hospital emergency department, jail or sent back into the community. Officials say the center has 16 beds in semiprivate rooms which could also be converted into single occupancy spaces. County officials say the center would begin accepting clients Dec. 2nd. Officials say the formerly named Metropolitan Assessment and Treatment Services center and the crisis center would now be called the Comprehensive Assessment and Resiliency through Excellence campus, or CARE. The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) has received a four-year federal grant of up to $3 million per year to support the behavioral and social health of youth through comprehensive services and community partnerships. The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) has awarded CHFS the grant for its System of Care (SOC) with the goal to improve behavioral health outcomes for youth through age 21 who have child welfare involvement and meet certain behavioral health criteria. Storm water is untreated rainwater that flows through the drain system into creeks, the ocean, and other waterways. Contact with storm water may increase the risk for certain types of illnesses such as rashes, fever, chills, ear infections, vomiting and diarrhea. Unlike the municipal sewer system, water carried by the storm drain system is not treated. To minimize potential health risks, it is recommended that people do not swim, play, or surf in the ocean and creeks for at least three days following a rain event. If people do choose to swim during the rain or immediately following the rain, they should avoid areas near the outfall from drainpipes and creeks that enter the ocean. DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) -- Hillcrest Family Services in Dubuque is closing its sub-acute center next month, leaving a void for mental health services in nine counties. "It’s not only an impact in Dubuque but the entire region that we won’t have this service available anymore," Hingtgen said. All packed for her new home with a suitcase and mesh bag, it's a transition she was not looking forward to. “I think what they’re doing is putting everybody into that institutionalized living," Van Pelt said. Van Pelt says she helps clean up the streets of the city as part of the Downtown Streets Team. She’s also part of the first group to move into the new shelter inside Modesto's Salvation Army. “We’re just working hard, at this point, to make sure that the right person gets placed at the right bed,” said city of Modesto spokesman Thomas Reeves. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City began accepting patients earlier this month and is expected to be in full operation early next year. The hospital is licensed for 741 beds and is designed to provide specialty care across multiple practices. The companies said they hope to make Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City a top destination for medical care in the Middle East over the next decade. It will include a research center and the latest technology, including robotic surgery. This is Mayo Clinic's first joint venture to operate a hospital abroad. Kamala Harris of California announced a mental health plan Monday that as part of ‘Medicare for All’ will cover mental health on demand — that is, to anyone who needs it, whenever and wherever they need it. The nation is experiencing a mental health crisis, Harris said. LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – Polk County is not immune to the nation’s growing mental health crisis and bed shortage. But a plan to build a 96-bed facility at Lakeland Regional Health aims to treat the mentally ill and save lives. “It is hard for me every day to not have enough beds and enough appointments to treat the people that we want to care for and help in our community,” said Alice Nuttall, the director of behavioral health at Lakeland Regional Health. The planned Center for Behavioral Health & Wellness will house both inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents and adults. Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) is advising residents to not eat and dispose of romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region due to a multistate outbreak of E. coli . Consumers should dispose of all whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and packages of pre-cut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad if the packaging says “Salinas” on the label or if it is unlabeled. ADHS is advising retailers not to sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas. “ E. coli can cause serious illness, so it is critical that everyone take precautions and not consume any romaine lettuce that may be associated with this multi-state outbreak,” said Dr. Cara Christ, ADHS director. “If you or someone from your family recently ate romaine lettuce and are experiencing symptoms, please seek medical treatment immediately.” Symptoms of E. coli include diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody, and abdominal pain.
