After Trinity Hospital Moves To Brighton, Where Can Howell Residents Go For Urgent Care?
HOWELL — Trinity Health Livingston will relocate to Brighton in 2026. Some residents of the western half of Livingston County are concerned about the move, particularly in terms of emergent care.
The hospital, located at 620 Byron Road, was previously St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and — before that — McPherson Hospital. The organization is building a replacement on an existing campus at 7575 Grand River Ave. In Brighton. It will span four stories and 174,000 square feet, with 56 acuity adaptable beds, 18 short-stay unit beds, and eight licensed operating rooms.
But some residents worry the upgraded facilities won't make up for the longer ride.
Trinity signed a purchase agreement with Catholic Healthcare International in 2024 for the building on Byron Road. The company will continue to offer some medical services there, but the extent hasn't been determined. CHI plans to reformat the main portions of the building for a possible low-risk birthing center, medical school and "home for the brain injured."
More: What will the old McPherson Hospital become after Trinity moves out in 2026?
With all the change, where can residents of Fowlerville and Howell go when they need urgent attention? Fortunately, there are several options.
Trinity Health Livingston will relocate to Brighton in 2026.
The new Howell Health Hub at 645 W. Grand River Ave. In Howell opened in 2024, and has available space for medical providers. Joseph Schimizzi, a principal at Acquira Realty Holdings, previously told The Daily specialties for prospective tenants include "an urgent care, orthopedics, pharmacy, ophthalmology, and internal medicine or family medicine."
Schimizzi provided a statement to The Daily confirming Howell Health Hub plans to offer urgent care.
"Howell Health Hub is prime for an urgent care offering," Schimizzi wrote via email. "Located directly in the population dense area just west of downtown Howell, Howell Health Hub is perfectly located for easy access, visibility and accessibility.
"We have strategically planned for a urgent care user on the first floor of the building, allowing for easy direct access for patients of the urgent care office."
Trinity Health will continue to operate an urgent care center in Howell, located at 202 W. Highland Road near Kroger.
Hours: 8 a.M-8 p.M. Mondays-Fridays; 8 a.M.-4 p.M. Saturdays-Sundays
Von Lozon, senior communications specialist at Trinity Health Michigan, provided a statement to The Daily.
"While Trinity Health Livingston is relocating to Brighton in 2026, patients that reside in and around Howell will still have access to exceptional care close to home at our Trinity Health Howell Medical Center," Lozon wrote. "Located at 202 W. Highland Road, our medical center features both an IHA Urgent Care that is open seven days a week, as well as an IHA Medical Group Primary Care practice offering health care for the entire family.
"This continuity of care is essential for our patients, as our physicians will be able to easily access and review all their medical records, ensuring that every visit remains seamless and comprehensive. Whether they are seeking urgent care or ongoing treatment, patients can have peace of mind knowing that our IHA Medical Group team is able to provide the same high-quality care they are familiar with at Trinity Health Livingston."
There's also an urgent care in the Ascension Medical Center in Howell at 1225 S. Latson Road.
Hours: 8 a.M.-8 p.M. Sundays-Saturdays; 8 a.M.-4 p.M. On New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Fourth of July. Closed on Christmas.
Closer to downtown Howell, there's an urgent care and walk-in clinic at 1255 E. Grand River Ave.
Hours: 8 a.M.-8 p.M. Mondays and Wednesdays; 8 a.M.-6 p.M. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 10 a.M.-4 p.M. Saturdays
Yes — there's even an urgent care center operating under the name "Ouch!" in Howell at 4185 E. Grand River Ave.
Hours: 8 a.M.-8 p.M. Mondays-Fridays; 8 a.M.-6 p.M. Saturdays-Sundays
Unlike urgent care centers, emergency rooms are designed for truly life-threatening or extensive injuries.
According to Trinity Health Michigan, residents suffering from severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, a compound fracture where the bone protrudes through the skin, convulsions or loss in consciousness, fever in a newborn less than three months old, deep knife or gunshot wounds, moderate to severe burns covering a large portion of the body, poisoning, a severe head or neck injury, or signs of a heart attack or stroke should visit an emergency room.
Possible conditions for treatment in urgent care include accidents and falls, sprains and strains, back pain, mild to moderate asthma, bleeding or cuts requiring sutures, eye irritation and redness, fever or flu, severe sore throat or cough, minor broken bones and fractures, skin rashes and inflections, seasonal allergies or severe headaches.
If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, immediately call 911 for instructions and aid.
